1月下旬に発生したサイクロンの影響により、スリランカ各地で甚大な被害が発生しています。
こうした状況にあたり、宇治市と友好都市であるヌワラエリヤ市の市長宛に、協会会長より被災された皆さまへのお見舞いと一日も早い復興を願うメッセージをお送りしました。

このたび、スリランカを襲ったサイクロンにより、これまで長きにわたる友好の絆で結ばれてきたヌワラエリヤ市において、尊い人命が失われ、今もなお多くの方々が行方不明や家屋を失い避難を余儀なくされるなど、深刻な被害が発生しているとお聞きしており、深い悲しみを覚えております。

宇治市国際交流協会を代表いたしまして、亡くなられた方々に心より哀悼の意を表しますとともに、被災者の皆様にお見舞いを申し上げます。
被害に遭われた方々の一日も早いご回復と、ヌワラエリヤ市の早期の復興を心からお祈り申し上げます。

It sadden me deeply to hear that the recent cyclone have resulted in the loss of many precious lives and caused serious damage, with many people still missing or forced to evacuate due to loss of their homes in Nuwara Eliya with which we have had long-standing ties of friendship .

On behalf of the Uji City International Association, I would like to express my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and my sympathies to all those affected.
We sincerely pray for the quick recovery of those affected and for early restoration of Nuwara Eliya.
